Hello,
Thank you for your interest in the Big Sky Volunteer Ski Patrol. Big Sky Ski Resort offers some of the biggest skiing in American with over 5,800 acres of skiable terrain. Skier visit days continue to increase and it takes a well trained ski patrol for proper snow safety mitigation and to tend to injured skiers/boarders on the hill. The patrol is staffed with 120-130 paid patrollers and 70 volunteer patrollers. The volunteer patrollers are mostly responsible for lower mountain terrain and posses many of the same skills that paid patrollers posses. We are continually recruiting and training new volunteer patrollers to help ensure that our ranks are filled with competent patrollers.
A couple of things that we need to make clear before you fill out the applicatio : all patrollers patrol must have a current NREMT certification, MT EMT license, and a CPR certification. We are asking all candidates to make at least a two year commitment to the patrol.
Please fill out the form below and we will be in contact about ski patrol getting on the patrol. If you have questions, you can reach us at: 406-285-1208.
Volunteer Ski Patrol Commitment
First year patrollers will be responsible for attending a 3-d medical refresher, a 1-d on hill training/refresher, and 4-d of rookie training where you will be taught the basics of loading and transporting an injured patient down the hill in a toboggan, packaging patients of the hill, radio communication, etc. All training is on weekends. After you have completed and passed the 8-d of training, you will be responsible for patrolling 16 days throughout the ski season. This is a 24-d commitment.
Returning patrollers are not required to attend the 4-d rookie training, hence they only have a 20 commitment.
The medical and on-hill training days are typically the two weekends before Thanksgiving and the rookie training is usually the first two weekends of December, so set these timeframes aside as these trainings are mandatory.
Volunteer Ski Patrol Compensation
Compensation for first year volunteer patrols is a season pass for yourself and five depot (day) passes.
Returning patrollers have an option for a family pass (pass for yourself, for your spouse, and for dependents living at home) or a pass for yourself and 20 depot (day) passes.
Additionally, we get discounts on food, lodging at some locations on property and pro forms through various companies along with several other discounts.
